Guild Wars 2: Halloween Phase 2

So let's talk about Halloween!

It was a big ordeal with new games, vanity items, and shenanigans in Guild Wars, and now in the new sibling it is just as much of a party.

Phase 1

The first phase was added haunted doors  that pop out trick or treat bags or monsters, candy corn nodes are also strewn around the world to gather (with mining picks), as well as the first installment into the previous life of the infamous Mad King Thorn.

Scavenger hunt: Parts 1-4 of the Mad King's story. End of the four the stories turn into a book accessory.
(ghost whereabouts can be found here  Mad King's Memories (Part 1) a concise guide )

Of course, for those familiar they also added a costume brawl. Unlike the previous installment this is a costumed free-for-all in any area. The initial one is sitting near the mystic forge in Lion's Arch. Much to many people's chagrin you can also start a costume brawl if you have the Mad King or Witch costume. As these cost either a fair amount of gold (most recent prices were 75s/100gems and rising as compared to last week's 50s/100gems) or money (varies depending on the amount of gems you buy, but between 800gems/$10.00~4000gems/$50.00). There are also minipets specific for the occasion.

As well as mystic forge recipes.  I'll list them a bit later.

Like I said, many people are very frustrated at the amount of vanity items. Honestly I think it's better that they take effort to get and aren't just given to everyone. They are also well made and have special attributes that make them valuable enough to work towards.

Mad King costume - Makes jokes/ starts food fight (counts as costume brawl)
Witch costume - Rides around on a broom in cities, has a cat mini familiar, summons cauldron (costume brawl starter), Melts... I mean what's better than a costume that makes you melt!

Mystic Forge Recipes for Halloween

  • one set halloween minis(3 minis) + 250 candy corns= 1 rare Chainsaw the Skeleton mini. (mystic forge recipe)
  • 6 random tonics(black lion chest) + Any 2 boosts (black lion chest) + 1 candy corn = Mad King Chest (might become disabled after the event)
That was phase one... Onto phase 2

Phase 2

What last year was the costume brawl, we have a new type of pvp/ two of them in fact.

Lunatic Inquisition

Run around a maze and kill or survive the night. It's about a 10 minute game or until all the villagers are gone.
  • Goal: as villager... to survive (all but one start as villager, you turn to ghost as you are killed)
  • Tips: Run or hide (and hope other villagers don't run ghosts over to your hiding spot). If the group of you plan to fight, it has to be a group of you and if there is two or more, it's not going to work very well as the weapons are single or close to single use.
    • Torch- stuns
    • Hammer- stuns and damages
    • Spider web- throw and slow (directional)
    • Goo- blinds
    • Bone- stuns and damages

  • Goal: as ghost... kill villagers(one at the start of the game, turn others as game progresses)
  • Tips: I don't have any, I'm the worst ghost ever. The villagers either get away from me or gang up on me with their limited weaponry. It's actually pretty sad.

Reapers Rumble

  •       Two teams
  •       Gather pumpkins
    • Throw them at opponents
    • Place in mausoleum to spawn skeletons that fight for your team
  •        Goal: Destroy the opponent's mausoleums(3) before they destroy yours(3)
  •        Holding the beginning of the hill is the most important, those two pumpkins will go a huge way to controlling the game.
  •        Targeting specific targets rather than everyone in a one on one is best.
  •        I haven't found if the different professions give different skills, but it is likely that everyone has the same 5 skills.

Mad King's Realm

You arrive here through a haunted door. There is a Lunatic Boatmaster which gives you access to three areas.

The Reaper's Rumble (see above)

Mad King's Labrynth

Once in here you can defeat enemies, carve pumpkins, and there is an elite (guarding a chest) to defeat. There is a 24 hour time limit on the chest according to some, but not others. I'll update once I test that.

Mad King's Clocktower

Shown in the picture above it is a winding mass of objects that have to be traversed.
Everyone starts the puzzle at the same time.
You will be returned to the start of the puzzle:
    • If you fall.
    • If you are not in the end of that section when the (invisible) timer runs out.
    • Also if you have a large avatar, be nice and take off some of the armor as everyone's completion requires being able to see as best they can.
Luckily there is no damage to your armor when you fall, you just return to start.
I haven't beaten it yet, but there is a basic achievement and a chest at the end of the puzzle.

Also the next section of Mad King Thorn's story is released ( parts 5-8 ).Mad King's Memories (Part 2) a concise guide

Haven't found the other things, but I'm excited to keep looking and am looking forward to Phase 3. Hope to see you all in there.

A note about phase 3... There is a special event just announced at 12:00pst on 10/28/2012. It will give an event item to the people there at that time. Lion's arch, Lion statue. That is 8:00am on Monday for me. I'll still be there. Hope you will too!
